The eyes and the area around them are among the areas that most affect facial expressions. A healthy and rested appearance of the eye area gives a person a younger, more energetic, and lively expression. Over time, excess skin and fat accumulation on the upper eyelid, as well as puffiness, sagging, and fine lines on the lower eyelid, can occur.

These changes can create a tired, aged, and sleepless look. Continuously receiving feedback in this direction can negatively affect a person’s self-confidence and social life. Eyelid surgery addresses these issues, resulting in a more dynamic, healthy, and balanced facial expression.

How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Blepharoplasty includes surgical procedures for the upper and lower eyelids. Surgeries can be performed alone or planned in combination with brow lifts, forehead lifts, and mid-face rejuvenation procedures. Additionally, in suitable patients, Botox and filler applications can be added as supportive treatments to surgery.

Eyelid surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.

Types of Eyelid Aesthetic Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery

In upper eyelid surgery, excess skin causing sagging is removed, and fat tissues are taken out if necessary. This procedure not only improves aesthetic appearance but also eliminates issues that narrow the field of vision in some patients.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

In lower eyelid surgery, fat tissues and skin excesses causing puffiness are corrected. If there is also hollowness along with puffiness, part of the fat tissue is removed, and the remaining portion is used to fill the hollows. This results in a smoother and more balanced under-eye appearance.

Surgery Duration

When only eyelid aesthetics are performed, the procedure lasts approximately 2–3 hours when both the upper and lower eyelid surgeries are done together.

Post-Surgery Process

Severe pain is not typically expected after surgery. Mild pain can be easily managed with prescribed painkillers. The patient may be discharged on the same day, although in some cases, they may need to stay in the hospital for one night.

In the first few days, swelling and bruising around the eyelids and surrounding area may occur. These effects usually subside on their own within 1–2 weeks. Stitches are typically removed after 5–7 days, and patients can return to their daily lives in a short time.

The incisions are made along the natural fold of the upper eyelid and near the lash line on the lower eyelid, making them barely noticeable over time and leaving no prominent scar.
