Breast Lift
Private MEVA Hospital
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, genetic predisposition, and frequent weight changes can lead to loosening of the breast tissue over time. The effect of gravity causes the breasts to sag, losing their fullness and shape. This situation can cause both aesthetic dissatisfaction and a loss of self-confidence in many women.
With breast lift surgery, it is possible to give sagging breasts a firmer, shapelier, and younger appearance.
How Is Breast Lift Surgery Performed?
Mastopexy surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery ranges from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the degree of breast sagging, whether there is volume loss, and any additional procedures involved.
During the surgery:
Sagging and excess skin tissue is removed
Breast tissue is reshaped and lifted
The nipple is repositioned to the ideal location and size
If there is volume loss in the breast, the fullness can be increased using silicone implants or fat injections, depending on the patient’s needs. This results in a firmer and more aesthetically full breast appearance.
Will There Be Scars?
The scars from breast lift surgery vary depending on the degree of sagging and the technique used. The scars are generally located:
Around the areola
In the inframammary fold (beneath the breast)
It is not possible to perform a breast lift without leaving scars; however, these scars gradually fade over time and become less noticeable, typically hidden under the bra line.
For patients with mild sagging and volume loss, the breasts can be lifted and fullness can be achieved with implants alone.
Does It Affect Breastfeeding?
In breast lift surgeries, the milk ducts are generally preserved. Therefore, the effect on breastfeeding function is very rare. However, a detailed evaluation of the situation is performed with each patient before the surgery.
Post-Surgery Process
The patient is typically discharged on the same day or after one night in the hospital.
Mild pain may occur in the first days, which can be controlled with painkillers.
Swelling and bruising around the breasts may occur, which usually significantly decreases within 2 weeks.
In some cases, drains may be placed in the breast area, to be removed 1–2 days later.
Wearing a special sports bra for about 3–4 weeks post-surgery is recommended. Office workers can usually return to their jobs after the 3rd day. For the first month, heavy exercise, intense physical activity, and lifting should be avoided.
Permanence and Long-Term Effects
Breast lift surgery offers aesthetically pleasing results. However, over time, factors such as:
Pregnancy
Breastfeeding
Rapid weight gain or loss
Aging and gravity
can cause the breasts to sag again. Therefore, maintaining an ideal weight after surgery and adopting healthy lifestyle habits is crucial.
