How Is Prominent Ear Surgery Performed?

The primary goal of prominent ear surgery is to reduce the angle between the ear and the head and reshape the ear to fit its natural anatomy.

The general process of the surgery is as follows:

• Local anesthesia is generally preferred for adult patients.

• General anesthesia is applied to children for comfort and safety.

• An incision is made behind the ear in a region that will not be visible.

• The cartilage is reshaped to form natural folds.

• If necessary, filing or removal of cartilage tissue is performed.

• The ear is repositioned closer to the head and made more balanced.

• The new shape is fixed to ensure it remains permanent.

• The incision site is closed with cosmetic stitches.

The surgery typically takes 1–2 hours.

Post-Surgery Process

In the first few days after surgery, mild pain, swelling, and sensitivity in the ears are normal. These symptoms generally decrease in a short period. The ears are protected with a bandage during the first week.

• Swelling and sensitivity typically reduce significantly within 1–2 weeks.

• The ears reach their final shape within approximately 1–2 months.

• Returning to daily life is usually possible in a short time.

The incision scars behind the ears gradually fade and become unnoticeable.
