Can Beard & Mustache Transplant Be Applied to Men with No Facial Hair?
Men who have no facial hair, commonly referred to as “kose” (beardless), are also suitable candidates for beard and mustache transplantation. In our clinic, many patients from Arab and East Asian backgrounds have achieved successful results using this method.
The patient’s skin or hair color, whether light or dark, does not affect the success of the procedure. However, for patients with significant color differences between their hair and beard, it is essential to communicate realistic expectations and ensure proper planning.
How Is Beard & Mustache Transplantation Performed?
Beard and mustache transplantation is done under local anesthesia in a single session. The procedure typically lasts 4–5 hours, and the patient feels no pain during the process.
In the first few days after the procedure, mild scabbing may occur in the transplanted areas.
These scabs naturally fall off in a short time.
The hairs on the transplanted follicles usually shed within 10–15 days (shock loss).
This shedding is completely normal. New hairs typically start growing from the 3rd month, and within 6–8 months, the beard and mustache will reach the desired density.
Can Beard and Hair Transplantation Be Done Simultaneously?
It is possible to perform both beard and hair transplantation in the same session. However, this requires very detailed planning. Hair follicles from the donor area are carefully analyzed to determine:
Which follicles are suitable for the beard
Which follicles will be used for hair transplantation
Color and thickness compatibility
Preserving the donor area and preventing the wastage of follicles is critical for achieving successful results. With proper planning, hair and beard transplantation can be safely performed in the same session.
How Many Grafts Are Needed for Beard Transplantation?
The number of grafts required depends on the individual’s facial structure, desired beard density, and the size of the area to be transplanted. Average graft needs are as follows:
Cheek area: 250–700 grafts
Sideburn area: 150–250 grafts
Chin area: 550–700 grafts
The exact number of grafts is determined through a face analysis conducted after the initial examination.
How Long Does Beard & Mustache Transplantation Take?
The duration of the procedure varies based on the size of the area to be transplanted, the existing beard density, and the desired result. Generally, beard and mustache transplantation procedures take between 2 to 5 hours.
